The Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA is committed to welcoming and serving all with equal dignity and respect. We work to improve overall health and well-being, ignite youth empowerment and ensure that all have equal opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

In 2024, the Rowan-Cabarrus Y provided access to membership, programs and services, valued at $1 million+. These funds are made possible through the generous gifts from our members and donors to the Annual Support Campaign, special events and grants.

How Can Open Doors Help?

If you cannot afford the full cost of a YMCA program or membership, you may apply for scholarship through the Open Doors Scholarship Program.

Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded using a sliding scale that considers total household income, and the number of people living in the household. For those that qualify, scholarship will be issued that will assist with membership and/or program fees.

Once awarded, please note that the scholarship cannot be used on private programs such as personal training, birthday parties, private swim lessons, massage therapy or other similar private programs.

*Please note: If your membership becomes inactive due to any reason, a new application will be required to renew your scholarship.

Open Doors Member Agreement

The information I have provided to the Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA is true and correct. I understand that my membership scholarship is ongoing, and program scholarship is renewed annually. I understand I must submit new information if my income changes. I understand the Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA reserves the right to request updated information to remain eligible for scholarship.

Step 1

Complete the confidential Open Doors Application. Scholarship can be used towards membership and all eligible programs.

You can visit your local Y to pick up an application, or download it here.

Step 2

Provide us with the required documentation. Accepted income verification documents include:

Most recent tax return (must include total gross income and legal dependents);

Last 2 pay stubs from your current employer OR last 2 bank statement;

Other financial documentation, if applicable: social security statement, unemployment benefit statement, disability benefit statement, child support statement, student loan statement

Step 3

Your application will be reviewed to determine scholarship eligibility.

In most cases, a Y staff person can review your application on the stop if all documentation is provided. Once reviewed, you will be presented with an offer.

Your scholarship for membership is continuous, and does not expire. We ask that if your income changes, you let us know so we can update your membership accordingly.

If you are applying for scholarship for youth programs and summer camp, we ask that you resubmit income verification annually.

With information on income and family size, we can award scholarship in a fair and consistent manner. We use these procedures to ensure that everyone receives equal consideration.

Personal financial information is handled in a confidential manner and will be seen and reviewed only by the YMCA’s professional staff. No information is shared with any other agency or organization.

The Open Doors Scholarship Program is possible in part through the generosity of donors to our Annual Support Campaign.
