The YMCA is a nonprofit, community service and cause driven organization that is committed to helping people achieve their full potential. The Open Doors Program is available to people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes.

Each year the Rowan-Cabarrus Y provides over $1 million in financial assistance. These funds are made possible through the generous gifts from our members and donors to the Annual Giving Campaign, corporate partnerships, special events and grants.

How Can Open Doors Help?

If you cannot afford the full cost of a YMCA program or membership, you may apply for financial assistance through the Open Doors Scholarship Program.

Eligibility

Assistance is awarded on the basis of financial need. We consider household income and number of legal dependents as primary criteria. For those that qualify, an award will be issued that will assist with membership and/or program fees.

Once awarded, please note that the award cannot be used on private programs such as personal training, birthday parties, private swim lessons, massage therapy or other similar private programs.

*Please note: If your membership becomes inactive due to any reason, a new application will be required to renew your financial assistance.

Open Doors Member Agreement

The information I have provided to the Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA is true and correct. I understand that my membership scholarship is ongoing, and program scholarship is renewed annually. I understand I must submit new information if my income changes. I understand the Rowan-Cabarrus YMCA reserves the right to request updated information to remain eligible for scholarship.

Step 1

Complete the confidential Open Doors Application. Financial assistance can be used towards membership and all eligible programs.

You can visit your local Y to pick up an application, or download it here.

Step 2

Provide us with the required documentation. Accepted income verification documents include:

Most recent tax return (must include total gross income and legal dependents);

Last 2 pay stubs from your current employer OR last 2 bank statement;

Other financial documentation, if applicable: social security statement, unemployment benefit statement, disability benefit statement, child support statement, student loan statement

Step 3

Your application will be reviewed to determine financial assistance eligibility.

In most cases, a Y staff person will be able to review your application on the stop if all documentation is provided. Once reviewed, you will be presented with an offer.

Your financial assistance for membership is continuous, and does not expire. We ask that if your income changes, you let us know so we can update your membership accordingly.

If you are applying for financial assistance for youth programs and summer camp, we ask that you resubmit income verification annually.

With information on income and family size, we can award assistance in a fair and consistent manner. We use these procedures to ensure that everyone receives equal consideration.

Personal financial information is handled in a confidential manner and will be seen and reviewed only by the YMCA’s professional staff. No information is shared with any other agency or organization.

Please call the membership desk at your local branch to learn more about the Open Doors Scholarship Program.

The Open Doors Program is possible through the generosity of donors to our Annual Giving Campaign.
