2025 LOCKER ROOM RENOVATIONS

Exciting transformations are underway at our Y! We are excited to announce a renovation project to revitalize our locker room facilities. This endeavor is more than just a facelift; it's a commitment to enhancing the member experience.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey, and watch as our YMCA transforms into an even more inviting space for all our members.

Men's and Women's Locker rooms will close on Monday, January 27, 2025.

  • The Family Locker Room will be open and available for member use. Please plan accordingly, as this space is limited to three shower stalls and will be used by individuals of all ages and genders.

  • We are conducting a complete floor-to-ceiling renovation of all three locker rooms. This includes brand-new lockers, benches, flooring, paint, ceilings, vanities, showers and shower and toilet partitions, among other improvements.

  • We anticipate reopening the men's and women's locker rooms in May.

  • Renovation of the family locker room will begin as soon as the men's and women's locker rooms are reopened.

We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we renovate this space.

Phase 1

FAQ

We considered a three-phase approach for the project, completing each locker room area separately. However, this raised concerns about not finishing both the men’s and women’s locker rooms before summer programs, which was crucial for our summer camp and aquatics.

Additionally, a three-phase plan would significantly extend the project timeline and costs, while also increasing ongoing disruptions at the facility. Ultimately, it was more efficient to complete both locker rooms simultaneously.

Access to our pools will be available through the family locker room hallway while the men’s and women’s locker rooms are closed. We are currently exploring alternative options to improve accessibility while ensuring safety and compliance with local health codes.

Due to the high volume of users at the West Cabarrus YMCA, finding an appropriate time for renovations has been challenging. However, we have received feedback from our members over the years indicating that the locker rooms were in need of updates. After months of discussions, we have developed a feasible funding plan to proceed with this project. We are extremely excited to move forward and provide our members and participants with the renovated locker rooms they've been requesting!

The family locker rooms will remain available to members while construction is ongoing in the men’s and women’s locker rooms. We understand that the three family locker room spaces may not be sufficient to meet the increased demand if all members choose to use them. Therefore, we strongly encourage members and participants to plan ahead. For some, this may include arriving at the facility dressed for your exercise or pool activities. Additionally, when possible, please prepare in advance to dry off and cover up as needed after your activities, allowing you to leave the facility without using a shower. We kindly ask all members to be considerate when using the family locker room spaces, as demand will significantly increase during the first phase of this project. Please try to use these spaces only when necessary, and do your best to limit your time when others are waiting. We greatly appreciate everyone’s courtesy, patience, and understanding.

The family locker room has a limited number of lockers available. These lockers are for daily use only. If they are unavailable, you can take your bags onto the pool deck with you. Due to limited space, please plan to bring only what you need.
