Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. The Y and the LIVESTRONG Foundation have joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, an evidence-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

West Cabarrus LIVESTRONG Participant Testimonial:
I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the LiveStrong program at the YMCA. The instructors were very helpful when showing how to modify the exercises to suit my ability level. I always felt comfortable while doing the exercises or asking for assistance setting up the equipment. I enjoyed the wide variety of classes with different types of exercises such as cardio, weights, stretching and chair yoga. Having access to the Y outside of this program was another great benefit.
It was fun and motivational doing this program with others who are going through similar health challenges and cheering you along the way. The structure of this program was instrumental in my ongoing participation and I felt so much better while going through and completing the program. I do miss it.
