Rowan Aquatics Club (RAC) started the Military Mile in 2015 as a practice opportunity to teach about the meaning of Veterans Day and to understand Memorial Day.
  • In 2016 we began raising funds for the Family Readiness Group through RAC’s connection with Matt Shorter & family.

  • In 2019 the Y was gifted the Stars and Stripes for the Natatorium by a RAC dad, whose base it flew over in Iraq.

  • 2024 is our 10th official event in Salisbury. Usually, RAC raises around $1,200 for the Family Readiness group.

Every 3 years or so, the base hosts Y swim families on a visit to see the work being done, and learn how their fundraising helps.


EVENT & REGISTRATION DETAILS

Who: Open to any and all ages, abilities and member/nonmember.
          **Youngest participant has been 4, oldest 86 – swim is for everyone!

What: 10th annual non-competitive swim, hosted by RAC.


When: October 19, 2024
8:20am – Safety meeting, introduction, & prayer. Recognition of Vets and Active Duty.
8:30am – 11:30am (no time limit on your swim)

Where: JF Hurley Y, or can also be done in another Y or at a preferred space and time


How: Swim 66 lengths, or whatever you can, in any fashion and with whatever swim aids are desired


For: The Family Readiness Group of the Company C/131st AVN REG of the NC National Guard, based in Salisbury.
        All proceeds after t-shirt costs go to this fund which aids families of deployed servicemen/women in case of emergency at home.


Register: At front desk by EOD 10/12/24 in order to get an event t-shirt.
You can still register to participate through 10/19, but no shirt.
RAC provides: Music, spectator & volunteer seating, sports drinks, water and event snacks


Fee: $30 – all


Need: Suit, towel, goggles, person to cheer and count your laps (if desired)
